I go for a walk on the S.Bethlehem greenway every day. It’s been raining a lot recently, so there are some fallen leaves on the roadside. I saw that the asphalt pavement was uneven, and sometimes when fallen leaves fell on the road, they would be pressed against the road surface by people or vehicles. I was trying to make a fallen leaf with asphalt grooves, so I found a relatively intact leaf, placed it on the asphalt road, and rolled it over it with a soft rubber ball that mimicked what a wheel would look like. And so I get this textured leaf. I think this leaf is very sculptural and suitable for use as a bookmark. At the same time, it shows the appearance of nature and age.

I really like how you approached this assignment. The perforations of the leaf really capture my eye, especially against the black background. You were extremely thoughtful with how you manipulated the leaf, and I like the balance of what you did with how the leaf appears in nature.
What a creative and new concept you had to make this effect on the leaf! I would not have thought to rub away parts of a leaf, but I love the effect it had when you did. It feels like the leaf has become a part of the asphalt. Almost like those imprinted fossils people find of plants back in the Jurassic Era. Would love to see more of these leaves, maybe creating a path or an interesting design.
The contrast between the leaf and the gravel really brings out the perforations as well as the color of the leaf. It’s really interesting to see leaves in this state because it brings out the delicacy of the leaf that I normally don’t think about. This would be really beautiful if you collected a whole bunch of leaves and photographed them together. You could even layer them on top of one another and the holes in the leaves would overlap to create some depth.
I agree with all the comments. This one leaf is very interesting and makes us think, but we need more to make it an installation, a path of leaves down the road, or maybe placed strategically every few yards, or evenly spaced as to mark the distance.
