Indoor Installation

Closet Overflow

I decided to do my installation inside my room.

Unfortunately, I have a strong addiction to online shopping and even though I was prepared to bring hangers to hang some things up I didn’t realize that I wouldn’t have a dresser in my dorm this semester. So I was very unprepared for the amount of things I would need to hang up and didn’t have enough hangers. My mom offered to send me hangers since I couldn’t find any at the stores around campus but for the past week a lot of my clothes have been folded up in a bag under my bed while I wait for the package. That was the inspiration behind my installation.

I used some streamers (since Rite Aid didn’t have string) and tied to them to different points around my room like my bed post, my desk chair, my window, and my closet door handles. Then I hung clothes around the room to represent the amount of clothes I had and to obstruct the different views around the room. This created different paths and shadows that the eye could look at. Ironically I found the hangers I used at Rite Aid so I won’t be needing the hangers my mom ordered after all (sorry mom).
