I made two different versions of a similar shape, one with color and one without. I wanted to use lots of color because I thought that it would make the shape more interesting when you were looking at the different layers, but I don’t think it turned out the way I wanted it to. I decided to use lines because I wanted to play with the different angles and positions of the different strips. I only drew on one side of the paper to create some contrast between the color and the white of the paper. In terms of the shape, I wanted to create something that was intertwined to create layers with negative and positive space. With the negative and positive spaces, I wanted to create almost an illusion when you look into the shape so that you wouldn’t know where it starts and where it ends.

The two pieces are quite similar in form, although I enjoy looking at the contrast of the colored elements against the plain elements, the organization of the form in the plain piece gives us a clearer sense of exterior form (occupied space). The plain piece in particular has an intriguing sense of form and design. In both paper sculptures, the interior shapes and forms(unoccupied or void) are not very pronounced. Perhaps if the cut bands were pulled farther apart from the center we could start to see some spaces or negative shapes being created in the unoccupied space.
I really like the color elements of your work. The color is simple but make your work interesting. By the way, I think the structure of paperwork looks more clearly in the second piece than the first one.
