My Objects

Evie Thomajan
  1. Headphones. I chose headphones because I have always loved music. Music in my family is very prevalent, there was never a quiet night in my house. As I have gotten older I have come to appreciate many different genres of music and I listen certain music depending on my situation. Whether I am stressed, excited, upset, or tired I always have a playlist for the occasion.
  2. Cape Cod bracelet. I cannot remember when I was gifted my first Cape Cod bracelet, but I wear this bracelet constantly and almost never take it off (partly because I still struggle to re-clasp it). Growing up, we spent most summers at my cousins house in Barnstable, MA and as I got older the Cape has become a place where I spend my summers with my best friend.
  3. Popcorn. One of my favorite foods. Also, a tradition in my family is when my mom will make a huge batch of popcorn each weekend. Ever since I was little, my mom would pull out the big cooking pan, pour oil and a bunch of popcorn kernels into the pot, and in about five minutes the entire house smelled like fresh popcorn. Not only is it one of my favorite foods, but popcorn in general reminds me of spending time with my family as we would usually do some sort of movie night to go with the snack.
  4. Pen and paper. One of my favorite things to do when I have some free time is draw. I usually just use a pen or a pencil and I have found I love sketching photographs I have from certain trips my family and I have taken. I have also taking some sort of drawing or art course all through middle and high school, it has become a way for me destress as I have gotten older.
  5. My cat and dog. I my pets are two of my favorite things in my life. I have always loved animals and having two around the house has always made me so happy.
  6. My family (missing my younger brother). I have a very close family and they are all important to me, each in a unique way. I think especially during quarantine, I spent a lot of time with my family that I normally would not have and the time with them made me appreciate even more the support my family has for me and all they do for me.

  1. Nice description. The text gives us a feel of your intention. The sketchbook was a good choice for a base. The photograph would have been stronger it the format fit the sketchbook (cropping) and the lighting had been more natural (cooler). Although there is a balance to the arrangement, it is more coherent in terms of concept than in terms of form. The sculpture starts with the edge of the sketchbook, or is the sculpture the sketchbook and the objects an allusion to what you would draw. That ambiguity between 2-d and 3-d. The objects could have been arranged a little differently and still had the same “meaning” but perhaps would have been more interesting visually. What if your pets had been suggested (drawn)on the sketchbook instead of as a card with just their names? What if the pen had continued the line of the bracelet or headphones?
    Just a thought.
