An Introduction Through Objects

The snow globe was the first Christmas gift I received from my parents after moving to America. I used to love ice skating in the Rockefeller Center, and it also was my favorite place to be during Christmas. The snow globe holds a special place in my heart because it reminds me of a more carefree time in my life and brings back a lot of memories of Christmas and family.

My first car was a mini cooper and the mini cooper dealership would host drive in movies every month. I would take my friends and family to the drive in movie theater and it became a tradition to go even during the winter. At the first event, they gave me a toy version of my car, so it now reminds me of when we used to pile blankets in my car, drive to the movies with a bunch of other mini coopers, snuggle up and watch a movie.

The perfume was my grandmother’s favorite perfume and she wore it all the time. As the sense of smell evokes the strongest memories, the scent of this perfume means a lot to me because it brings back memories of her when she was living with us. She’s still alive, but she’s living in Taiwan right now so we haven’t seen her in a while.

I got the pink sunglasses as a gift from my first friend during my freshman year of college. She became my best friend, so these sunglasses remind me of her and the fun times we’ve spent together. I wear it out sometimes as a joke, but they really do hold a lot of meaning for me.

The amethyst is from a vacation I took in Thailand. It was one of my favorite family vacations because we spent a lot of time on the beaches, with elephants, and eating good food. I’m not sure why I chose that rock as my souvenir, but it does me of all the good memories I had with my family during that trip.

I am allergic to pineapples, so as a joke, my dad bought be air-pods with a pineapple case. I use them all the time but I’ve never lost them because the case makes it so hard to lose. I listen to music pretty much 24/7, so these air-pods represent my love for music as well as the inside jokes with my dad.

  1. I think it’s really interesting that you chose to leave the pineapple AirPods case open because they represent your allergy and music at the same time. I’m not sure the same message would have been sent if the AirPods were open or falling out of their case. The green stem and the yellow/gold parts of the pineapple really bring the entire image together, from the gold center focus statue in the snow globe to the green trees surrounding the statue as well.

  2. I love the way you balanced the objects around the snow globe and you really brought attention to the snow globe by doing that. I think it would be interesting to see the black thing on the right maybe a little closer because it is hard to tell what it is. However I do like that all your colors seem to go together and each color of each object is included in your focal point, the snow globe.

  3. Well balanced, good use of symmetry and a nice repetition of shapes. As I mentioned in class the arrangement of the glasses on top give a slight suggestion that it is a face that we are looking at. Well composed and photographed. The amethyst is a little hard to discern, but the rest of the objects all work well together. I might have moved it back a little farther so it does not mimic the size of the pineapple so closely. Its darkness draws our attention so it was a difficult object to work in harmoniously.
