- Dried and Pressed Wildflowers: because they are the flowers my parents named me after (the violet’s latin and scientific name is Viola) and I love flowers. Like an unhealthy obsession.
- Rodent and Bird Skulls: because I love everything about the natural sciences (hence unhealthy obsession with flowers, mushrooms, dead bugs, etc). I picked these skulls out of owl pellets (so fun you got to try it if you’ve never done it before). I love animal skulls/bones and will try to sneak them into my drawings/paintings.
- Paintbrushes: I love to paint. I prefer oils, acrylics and gouache with my least favorite being watercolor. But if given the option to paint in watercolor or not paint at all I would always choose to paint. I even brought painting supplies when backpacking up a mountain. It was blood, sweat, and tears to carry that extra weight. #noregrets #actuallysomeregrets
- Polaroid Photos: to remind me what my friends look like. Jkjkjkjkjk. How could I forget their beautiful faces?? I love taking photos to look back on. I’m sentimental like that. And I do keep some of these with me in my wallet because I love my friends <3
- Violin: I played classical violin for 10+ years. I will still pick it up from time to time. It also looks very similar to a viola (the instrument, not me) and it fit the aesthetic I was going for.

Your picture is extremely pleasing to look at from the placement of the rodent skulls to the overlapping paintbrushes. As I said during class, cleanliness is really satisfactory to me, so the sheer fact that your wood floor has zero specs of dust and your polaroids are pure white all along each border while the paintbrushes are covered in old paint could not be more enticing. The contrast between the two fits so perfectly I could not put it into words.
I really like the idea that put dried flowers and bird skulls on the different corners of the violin. This makes the picture more colorful and diverse. What’s more, using the woodiness floor as the background is also a great idea because all the main stuff on your picture has the same color scheme with the floor.
I think the picture as a whole has a very artistic quality and is visually very beautiful. The way you placed your objects around the violin really draws attention to it especially because you also created a nice symmetry with the paintbrushes and photographs. I also liked the placement of the flower and skulls because it looked almost like an embellishment or an element of decoration for the violin.
Viola, there is a clear organization to your objects, with the violin dominating the composition very effectively.
I wish you had rotated your image just 1 degree clockwise ( I keep slightly tilting my head) and perhaps created an even more dynamic diagonal with the paintbrushes. Think about how to effectively light 3-dimensional forms, with an even wash of light, and how cast shadows can emphasize the three dimensionality of the arrangement.
