There is a tiny backyard with only grass and nothing else in the house I live in Bethlehem. I have always wanted to have some plants and flowers in the backyard but never grow any successfully. Last Sunday afternoon, I took a walk after dinner and saw a lot of Setaria viridis and other types of grass that are similar I couldn’t name. I stopped and collected them. On my way home, I saw some Russian Sages and conifer cones, and I noticed that they are somehow similar to the Setaria grasses on my hand. I suddenly had this idea of putting them together as one in my backyard. I put them on the grass from the shortest type of plant to the longest coming out as a circle from the center. I thought it was interesting that they came together created nice color layers while they all have their own repeating flurry and textures as layers on themselves. Those small textures on them and the way I put them on the grass created a movement, which they are extended outward from the center of the circle. Although I am not able to plant flowers in the backyard, I made a huge flower with different grasses! UNITED, LAYERED

I really like the artistic aspect of this piece. I think you did a really good job using the materials found in nature to create a really well done and aesthetically pleasing image. I also like the added photograph with the deer to really get a sense of the surrounding area.
If I saw this in my backyard, I would probably want to put it up on my wall or use it as a decorative piece. The way you layered the plants, acorns, and flowers make it look like it’s a flower blooming. The little white flower that is placed in the center was the first thing I noticed because it really stands out from the acorns. From the center, I looked to the other elements of the design and I liked the progression of the colors you used which goes from dark to light.
I really like your work! The color is so beautiful and your pattern shone like the sun. All things you use are natural plants which are normally to see on the outside, but your design makes them interesting!
