When I first saw with this space, I immediately focused on how the room felt cold and how the exposed concrete rose from the floor with sharp angles. Thinking back on recent hikes through Pennsylvania, I saw how this space reminded me of rocks near rapids and streams. I decided to make a river of colorful clothing that flowed down the stairs in an attempt to break up the monochromatic concrete. Using a collection of clothes from my housemates dressers as well as my own, I arranged the clothing in lines that varied in both width and direction. I attempted to break up the rectangular block of stairs into smaller portions that not only opposed the sharp angles of the space but also required people to think about how they would climb the stairs. (similar to how hikers strategically think about crossing rivers)

I really like that the arrangement of the clothes looks like two figures. One who is colorful and dancing and their legs are extending almost the whole length of the stairs and the other figure is colorless and they’re just standing and rigid. It really shows two ends of a spectrum of people and with color.
