I started off my sculptures with some inspiration from rock formations. I wanted my shapes to look like they were somewhat cohesive but still maintain their own unique form. I played around a lot with different shapes, sizes and thicknesses. Eventually I moved from slide 5 to six because I felt the smallest piece didn’t add enough to the collection. The smoothing was one of the harder aspects but I think smoothing the pieces gave it more of the rock like appeal. As if the pieces had been carefully shaved off from the same piece.

I really enjoy the shapes you created with these clay formations. At first glance I really love the stone arch concept that draws me in while looking at the pictures of multiple pieces together. The triangles and other abstract shapes within the formations make these pieces so interesting to look at.
These pieces really tell a story and I can definitely see where you were going this project. The pieces really flow together and even though no two look exactly alike they still share similarities and come together as a cohesive project. You can also tell that you spent a lot of time smoothing and paying to the shapes within each piece. I really like your project and think you did a good job.
Evie, the pieces work well together, and could be composed, or arranged so that the overlap of one form to the next creates a new form as well as interesting negative space. Try composing them in a square footprint or randomly and shoot at eye level so we look from the form in the foreground to the form in the middle and then in back…
