At first, I struggled with getting rid of the square shape, but then i started carving around to create the spiral. I then took away the edged to create a sphere-ish shape and then continued carving around the spiral. I wanted to created a point where the spiral started, so the tip is what I ended up with. To keep the flow of the spiral, I made slanted indentations and carved those shapes into the bottom of the sculpture. I created a pattern with the long slanted shapes and tried to have them fit together, so that the view from the bottom only shows the pattern and the view from the top hides the pattern.

The implies spiral works although the curved form on top may be a little to pronounced. It leads us to read the form one way no matter how you orent it. Perhaps folding or carving that embellishment into the form itself would make us reexamine the whole piece a little more closely.
