I happened to have an abundance of pens and pencils in my room and decided to use this as the material for my piece. I tried to think about how we use writing utensils, and what their function is. After a while, I though about how many forms of writing have moved to online platforms. There are softwares that check spelling/grammar, and many programs can even suggest or predict what you are about to say. I also find that most of my writing (especially for technical lab reports) feels automated and procedural. Taking these ideas into account, I decided to make a hand out of writing materials that would look mechanical and robotic. I used wire as the fame of the hand and the adhesive to secure the joints.
This piece is amazing! And I think it will be better if the hand can move to different figures.
