Costume Piece (Alison Saar)

My piece was inspired by Alison Saar’s sculptures. I took the aspects of her pieces in regards to hair specifically and applied to my sculpture. I wanted my headdress to sort of have the same chaotic quality that many of her sculptures had. Although I think I sort of got into too much of a perfected piece instead of letting the wire kind of move freely which is more of what I had wanted the crown to look like.

  1. Nicely done, the headdress looks better on than perched on a table top. The crown of the piece may be a little too structured and regular for the artist you chose, but the protrusions are both playful and eye catching. It does look sort of art deco or like a 1920’s flapper headpiece.

  2. I think you did a very good job at creating a balanced yet energetic piece. The headdress captures the light very effectively and makes it seem as if it is glowing. The light also acts to make the piece seem as it is it moving.
