Cabinet of Curiosities

“Candle Forms”

My curiosities represents my love for candles. Since my candles are not in any type of container they tend to leave random shapes of wax melts all over the place. I don’t know why I keep them but I usually break them off of wherever they’re stuck to and collect them in a jar. So for this piece I used the random shapes as my curiosities and laid them out.

  1. Aja, this work reminds me of early 20th century fabric or wall paper patterns that came out of the work of the Bloomsbury Group. Although your piece is interesting, it is more two-dimensional than 3-dimensional. I would suggest adding more wax pieces or rearranging the pieces so they are not simply perceived as a flat pattern against a plain ground.
