Abstract

Slow Lense by Vincent Leroy

French contemporary sculptor, Vincent Leroy has not only inspired me as an artist, but as an observer of life. Using modern technology, yet simple forms, Leroy works to warp the viewer’s sense of perspective and atmosphere. Most striking to me was the lasting impression he could leave with such simple forms. He forces whoever may pass by or through his exhibits to interact with the piece. One of my favorite aspects of Leroy’s work was his attention to detail. His planning and thought process is abundantly clear throughout his work. Whether its selecting the venue to show his work or music that will be playing lightly in the background, Leroy is in control of the experience. While yes every artist plays a large part in guiding the viewer’s experience, I believe that what Leroy is guiding viewers towards is not just an experience but an awakening and challenging of previous assumptions. The initial piece that grabbed my attention is shown above, and it still grips me as I feel it perfectly encapsulates his style.
