I didn’t really have a clear vision to start the project, sometimes this scares me, but I tried to lean into this open mindedness and just create as I went. It was important to me that I pushed myself to really transform the material and challenge the viewer’s assumptions of paper. I started playing around with more geometric lines than I typically do and one square at a time built this up. As this piece was coming together I really wanted to explore how it would play with light. This led me to my idea lightbulb idea. While I didn’t quite get the shadows I originally thought I might from the lightbulb, I’m really happy with this piece. I had to think strategically about how to work out the logistics and stayed patient with such a delicate material…2 things I tend to struggle with.

Although the images with the lamp are compelling I prefer the images where the paper piece is casting a very dark shadow or more simply illuminated. In these I can see the paper form more clearly and it shows a sense of interior/exterior. Nice repetition of form, and the whole piece is well executed.
I really love the way this piece turned out. I think it gives a really cool retro feel with all the squares as well as the way you used the light within the structure!
I think your detail and precision with the paper was effective at creating a very interesting and energetic piece. I really like the shadows that were cast when the piece was outside; it reminds me of a cool abstract building
