Yayoi Kusama is an influential and inspirational artist who attempts to put the observer at the center of the piece. Kusama’s difficult childhood had a large impact on deeper meanings behind her work; Kusama uses her artwork as a form of therapy to deal with anxieties originating from her past. She describes, “I convert the energy of life into the dots of the universe.” Throughout most of her work, Kusama uses the same recurring theme of dots and says that they represent peace.
