Claymation

Yay!! I did it! I am not going to lie I only half believed I could pull this off. I originally tried to use my clay hand made from the harder white clay and realized it was too difficult to move and would constantly crack so then I had to create another new hand from scratch from the softer grey clay. It still ended up cracking especially at the end with all the movement especially in the fingers. That’s how I came up with the idea at the end for disassemble the entire hand (which ended up being one of my favorite parts). I did not follow the drafted storyboard as I realized I was limited by the positions I could put the hand in without it needing outside support. I had to make sure that whatever new position I put it in it could sit there on its own, long enough for me to take a photo. In total I took 383 photos for a clip that lasts only 1 minute and 16 seconds.

  1. Pretty impressive Viola, interesting choice for the sound track. The movement of the hand and the disintegration of the hand was expressive and at time humorous, while the monochromatic color palette lent an air of solemnity.

  2. This was an extremely ambitious choice for a project and you should be really proud that you pulled it off. I do think that you probably could have left out some of the movements of the full hand (before the fingers fall off) because they seem to be more for time-filling rather then for story-telling purposes.
